The Swedish Publishers' Association
The Swedish Publishers’ Association is a trade organisation for the Swedish book-publishing industry. The association has 60 members, and the main purpose of the association is to promote issues of common interest to the publishing industry.
The Swedish Publishers’ Association was founded on December 4, 1843, and it is an organisation open to companies (or physical persons) which regularly and professionally publish books in Sweden. The books may be printed works of fiction or non-fiction, printed books or audio books or digital publications.
The prime task for the association is to make publishers more visible, by defending and reinforcing the industry, and, when called upon, by acting in the common interest of the publishing industry. This means that the association is active in legal issues regarding publishing, primarily when copyright and freedom to publish is concerned. But also that the association makes itself heard in questions which deal with political and economic matters relating to publishing, as well as in questions dealing with book reading in the Swedish society.
The association’s secretariat provides advice, regarding legal issues, related to publishing, to its members. The advice covers all relevant legal questions, regarding printed books as well as digital books. Questions regarding freedom of speech and freedom to publish are also dealt with.
The association also promotes an open and independent book market, where all publishing houses, big or small, new or old, can establish themselves and grow.
The association acts primarily on questions related to the Swedish book market, but it also takes part in international activities.
